Jungle’s Butterfly Garden

Posted:

Jungle class have been looking after five caterpillars and monitoring their transformation into butterflies.

Jungle class received their caterpillars on the 4th May 2021 and watched and waited patiently as they ate and grew bigger and bigger.

As they grew they shed their eco-skeletons which looked like little spiders!

After a couple of weeks, they turned themselves into cocoons and began the process of metamorphosis. We then moved them into their ‘Butterfly garden’ and again watched and waited patiently.

After about 7 days the first butterfly hatched, then after play another butterfly had appeared and again after dinner and the afternoon break. So by the end of the day there were 4 out of the 5 butterflies drying out their wings and feeding on the nectar and fruit that we had laid out for them. Two days later the final butterfly emerged from its chrysalis and we waited a couple of days before preparing to release them out to the wild on the 28th May 2021.
